About Ade

A 40 something part-time singer/songwriter based in the UK. Music is a hobby which has gotten way out of control. Ade is a Father of four, married to Gabriella who reminds him that he is not- and never will be- a Pop star. A 20 year career in the Motor Sales industry leaves little time to pursue his music ambitions, and as a result every project takes an age to complete.

The first album "Tiny Victories" is written about a period when Ade was seperated from his children and every song relates to a step in that period. Now living with his children in the UK, and married to his best friend - the music will be taking a more positive turn!

Ade has no formal training in Music production and cannot read music or play any instrument to a respectable level. The production is testament to how much you can do with programming and software these days. Now self taught - Ade is pretty adept at production and mastering techniques, and has learnt to play synths.

Work IN ProGRess

The new album "Two" is currently in demo stage - due to the prolonged process on the first album - we thought it would be good to have a chronological update here.

WRITING
Words come first
Then Melody

People work in different ways. Most successful artists tend to come up with an idea and a melody well before they do the lyrics. Ade writes words first. The songs for this new album come from a collection of around 35 that were written between May and August 2015. The album is written about a fictitious couple and the first year in their relationship.

This couple met under circumstances that forced them together and their first year takes them through falling in love, trust issues with an affair, and the decision on whether to continue. The 10 songs selected are like chapters of that story. All of the lyrics are written, the melodies and chord structures are done. This part of the process is complete and the lyrics can be found on the site. Along with the lyrics from previous work.

DEMO CREATION
A blank canvas
With broad brushes.

The demo stage of the process is possibly the most important. This is where the creativity comes in. Ideas for tempo, instruments used, riffs and hooks. All come frm the demo stage. The most successful demos end up sounding pretty much exactly as the finished product. In this stage on "Tiny Victories" the demos were many and varied - which took a very long time. The idea this time is to do one demo per song only.

The album is currently in demo stage. Previously Ade released the demos to guage opinion, this will not happen this time. When the album is released - it will be the first time anyone has heard any of it. Ade uses basic software synths to do the demos - even for guitars and drums. These will be replaced with real instrumentation in the recording stage.

RECORDING
A sterile environment
Silence is truly golden.

This part of the process takes time, but when the demos are good it makes recording quicker. Real guitars and drums are introduced to compliment the electronic elements. Ade uses many synths, an AKG compressor microphone, Cakewalk Sonar Professional X2 digital workstation with multi track recording, and software VST racks and effects.

Recording is something that has taken time to learn. It is vital to get the best "dry" recording possible as all the electronic wizardry in the world won't correct a bad recording. Gettting this stage right makes the next stage a hundred times more straight forward.

PRODUCTION
The pursuit of perfection
A Master reproduction

Production is where the magic happens. The "dry" recordings come to life in this process. Production is an art which Ade is still learning, and everytime a new skill is learnt there is a temptation to go back and apply it to previous works. Getting the vocal to sit in the track and give it room to breathe, selecting the correct frequencies to decrease or increase, and mixing it all into a track that doesn't sound muddy.

Once mixed the track goes to the "Mastering" stage. Which is where the correct levels for all frequencies are maximised and the track is made to sound glossy. This stage is fundamental in ensuring that the album sounds the same on any kind of player, and that all tracks are the same volume with the same bass and treble qualities. The last thing you want is the listener having to adjust anything at their end between tracks. This stage is where the pride happens.
